A rapid advance in our understanding of binary black hole population

A primary objective of gravitational wave astronomy is to understand the environments that drive the formation and merger of binary black holes. Central to this effort is the population inferred from gravitational wave observations. In my talk, I will summarize advances in the technology enabling these inferences, as well as the rapid progress in our understanding of binary black hole populations over the past few years.
