The human consciousness originates in the brain and is manifested especially in Thoughts, Perception, Emotion, Will, Memory and Imagination. The collective conscious and unconscious processes in a sentient organism/human direct and influence mental and physical behaviour. These faculties of thinking, reasoning and applying knowledge have designated areas in the brain. But when things go wrong the balance in all these faculty functions get disturbed. This reflects in abnormalities in thought process and thus the behavior. Some of the important areas of brain that deal with Emotions and memory are Hypothalamus, Amygdala, Hippocampus, Wernicke’s area, etc. It is interesting to know what happens in dysfunctions like Depression, Anxiety, Perception disorders, etc. Does this mean that treating these dysfunctions is necessarily a lifetime process? Do the medicines lead to lifetime dependence? The speaker will discuss many more aspects of neurotransmitters, developmental psychology, and evolutionary sophistication!!
