NATURE OF ENERGY AND DENSITY EVOLUTION IN A FORMING GALAXY CLUSTER

In this work, we studied the nature of evolution of intra cluster medium (ICM) and energy during galaxy cluster mergers. The energy released in such events amounting same as the binding energy of the newly formed core, which forms after the destruction of the individual cores. These are many body problems and use of numerical simulations becomes inevitable to understand such systems. In this work we used ENZO-2.1 hydrodynamic code to study massive galaxy cluster merger events. It is noticed that the huge binding energy released at the newly formed cluster core make the ICM expand supersonically. The medium expansion show almost the same feature like that of a blast wave from an explosion. We also found that such explosions evolve beyond the virial radius of the cluster and even re-populate and re-energize the voids.
