HOW TO BUILD MAGNETIC ARMS WITH LARGE-SCALE DYNAMOS

Magnetic spiral arms (or, simply, magnetic arms) are spiral-shaped regions of enhanced large-scale magnetic field in spiral galaxies. They are observed in polarized synchrotron emission and its Faraday rotation, and are spatially distinct from the optical or gaseous arms. The speaker will discuss how magnetic arms are being studied using large-scale galactic dynamo models.
