TIME VARIABILITY STUDIES OF LOW IONIZATION BROAD ABSORPTION LINE QUASARS

Studying the variability in Broad Absorption Lines quasars helps us to understand the structure, evolution, and the physical properties of the outflowing gas. In this work, we investigated the time variability in the Mg II and Al III lines of a sample of low ionization broad absorption line (LoBAL) quasars using IUCAA Girawali Observatory over a timescale of 3.22 to 7.69 years in the quasar rest frame. The sample contains 22 SDSS selected LoBALs brighter than i ~ 17 magnitude. We see a variety of phenomena, including some BALs that either appeared or disappeared completely. In one case, the excited fine structure lines have changed dramatically. We detect variability in as high as 11 sources and the fraction of variable sources is high as compared to the previous studies on HiBALs.
