KINETIC PHYSICS OF COLLISIONLESS TURBULENT PLASMAS

Many naturally occurring plasmas are observed to be turbulent and collisionless in nature. Understanding the turbulent dynamics of such systems is not only of academic interest but also of great practical importance because of our heavy reliance on space technology in these modern times. We study many open questions related to collisionless kinetic plasmas including collisionless dissipation, transition from kinetic to "fluid like" behavior and coupling between multiple species. We discuss the motivations and some key results in this talk.
