Hot Stuff

Hot strongly interacting matter once filled the universe, but in the last 14 billion years it has only been briefly produced in relativistic collisions of heavy ions. Some of its properties can be extracted from a quantum field theory using supercomputers; other properties remain too hard to calculate today. The speaker will describe some of what a global collaboration of experimental and theoretical physics have discovered about the hottest stuff we can now create in the lab.
