GALAXY THICK DISKS

The thick disks of the Milky Way and other galaxies appear to have formed at about the same time as bulges. During this stage, galaxies were highly turbulent as a result of active accretion, interactions with other galaxies, disk instabilities, and feedback from star formation. This talk will review observations of thick disks in the local universe and at high redshift, and discuss their likely origin.
