Resolution of cosmological and black hole singularities using loop quantum gravity: an overview and recent progress

In the last decade, thanks to a rigorous quantization of various spacetimes, many useful insights have been gained on the Planck scale effects originating from loop quantum gravity. These effects show that various singularities in isotropic, anisotropic and black hole spacetimes are resolved without any fine tuning of initial conditions, violation of energy conditions or choices of quantum states. The emerging picture from all these studies with increasing complexity is that big bang of classical general relativity is replaced by a bounce in quantum geometry, a result which has now passed many robustness tests. Much of this progress has come from using novel algorithms and HPC methods in loop quantum gravity which further reveal existence of an effective continuum spacetime capturing non-local quantum gravitational effects. In this talk we will have an overview of these developments and recent progress towards generic resolution of singularities using loop quantum gravity.
