Journey through a Neutron Star: from Crust to Core

Neutron stars (NS) are excellent astrophysical laboratory to test properties of matter under extreme conditions. In the passage from low density crust to the high density core, the changing properties play important role on various NS observations. In the first part of his talk the speaker will discuss how strong magnetic field affects the composition of the crust. Close to the crust-core boundary various irregular nuclear structures, the "nuclear pasta", could appear. The speaker will present calculation of the transport properties of the pasta phase within the quantum molecular dynamics simulations and show that the results invalidate the commonly-used impurity parameter formalism. In the last part of the talk he will discuss efforts to constrain the poorly known equation of state of NS core using gravitation wave data obtained from the first binary NS merger event, GW170817. Finally, he will explore the possibility of the existence of quarks inside the NS core.
