The Third Observing run of the LIGO and Virgo detectors: results and future plans

I will review the performance of the LIGO-Virgo network during our third observing run, O3. During this run we greatly expanded on our existing catalog of Gravitational Wave observations issuing 56 public alerts, many of which will appear in updates to our Gravitational Wave catalog. To date we have published three detection papers based on exceptional events. An apparent Binary Neutron Star merger event: GW190425, A Binary Black hole merger event with highly asymmetric masses: GW190412, and a merger: GW190814, between a black hole and either the lightest black hole or the heaviest neutron star ever observed. I will discuss these results and then outline the work currently under way to prepare for the fourth observing run, which is planned for early 2022.
