Feedback from Active Galactic Nuclei: The Cosmological Perspective

In the last twenty years, the role of super massive black holes (SMBH) on the evolution of their host galaxies and dark matter halos, have been widely addressed through theoretical modeling, and multi-wavelength observations. In the paradigm of structure formation, outflows from the SMBH residing at the centers of galaxies and clusters have been widely studied. It is now believed that the connection between SMBH growth and evolution of their host galaxies are mostly interlinked through these outflows… a phenomenon, termed as active galactic nuclei (AGN) feedback in the literature. Historically X-ray and radio observations have played the pioneering role in detecting AGN feedback in clusters and group scale systems.
