The flux budgets of solar and stellar dynamos

The large-scale dynamos of stars like the Sun involve a cycle where toroidal and poloidal field are both created and dispersed. Using Stoke's theorem applied to the induction equation, we derive the flux budgets for the integrated toroidal and poloidal fluxes in each hemisphere. We show that these flux budgets are critical for understanding large-scale dynamo action not only on the Sun but also for Epsilon Eridani and 61 Cygni A.
