Robo-AO: Science of Huge AO Surveys

The Robo-AO instrument (built as a collaboration between Caltech and IUCAA) is the first completely automated adaptive optics system. It operates a own UV laser beacon and acquires images with FWHM of 100 milli-arcseconds on the visible camera. The efficiency of the automated system allows observations of about 200 targets per night. This has opened up a niche area of high-resolution imaging surveys with thousands of targets. The speaker shall discuss the design and performance of Robo-AO as well as the science that it has facilitated.
