The Standard Model of Particle Physics - what we know, and what we do not know

The understanding of the sub-atomic world has been a crowning achievement of fundamental physics, culminating in the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. The quantum theory of the building blocks of matter and forces called the Standard Model has been one of the most successful theories in science. I will discuss how the building blocks and forces work in the SM. I will also discuss some of the experimental and theoretical issues that the SM does not address, and why we think new laws of nature may be revealed soon.
