Connected Modeling of the Impact of Astrophysical Feedback on Matter Distribution and Baryonic Thermodynamics

Upcoming cosmic shear and CMB-lensing surveys will precisely measure the cosmic matter distribution. At low redshifts and small scales (which have the bulk of the signal-to-noise), the matter distribution is strongly affected by poorly understood astrophysical feedback from star formation and active galactic nuclei. However, these processes also strongly affect the thermodynamics of the surrounding hot gas, which is well probed by the Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect and X-ray observations. Therefore, joint modeling of the impact of feedback on weak lensing and SZ/X-ray probes offers a chance to calibrate the evolution of astrophysical feedback and hence significantly enhance our cosmological constraints. I will describe a new model for this joint modeling and show its validation on a large suite of hydrodynamical simulations. I will then demonstrate how we can significantly enhance our cosmological constraints by jointly analyzing cosmic shear measurements with either shear-SZ cross-correlations or SZ cluster mass-calibration with weak lensing.
