Precision measurements, Gravitational wave detection and Quantum technology with Optical resonators |
Optical resonators are a fascinating example of light propagation under boundary conditions. Although they are among the most widely studied systems, they enable some of the most complex and impactful applications, from the fundamental demonstration of electromagnetic field quantization to highly phase-sensitive detectors, such as those used in gravitational wave detection. Optical resonators have been pivotal in advancing laser technology, a key component in everyday devices, and in the realization of light-matter interfaces for future quantum networks. In this talk, I will explore the general applications of Fabry-Pérot cavities in precision measurements, focusing on ultra-stable resonators used in atomic clocks and gravitational wave detectors. I will then shift to quantum technology applications across different fields. Next, I will discuss microscopic Fabry-Pérot resonators, particularly fiber-based optical resonators, and the development of highly stable fiber-based systems. Additionally, I will highlight their use in spectroscopic demonstrations and the generation of quantum states of light and matter. Finally, I will present a future outlook on the research and development of cavity-assisted quantum states, especially in the context of gravitational wave detectors. |
