The Solar System's Great Divide

Why does the Solar System have small, rocky planets close to the Sun, and four gaseous ones far away? Why do meteorites originating from beyond Jupiter have a different composition of isotopes of specific elements than those from the inner Solar System? What happened to the early Solar System that shaped it to be what it is today? I will answer these questions and discuss future research on the origin and evolution of our Solar System.
