Galactic Gastronomy: Blueberries and Green Peas as local analogues of the First Galaxies
 
 

The first galaxies in the Universe were compact, intensely star-forming, and emitted powerful radiation that played a crucial role in reionizing the Universe. Recent discoveries with JWST have revealed intriguing evidence of active galactic nuclei (AGN) in a newly identified class of compact galaxies, the Little Red Dots. However, distinguishing AGN activity from star formation in these galaxies remains a significant challenge. Local dwarf star-forming galaxies, such as Blueberries and Green Peas, serve as the best analogues for studying the radiation output of star forming dwarf galaxies across the electromagnetic spectrum, offering a unique opportunity to explore AGN signatures through multiple means. In this talk, I will present an overview of our analysis of a large sample of Green Peas and Blueberries with multiwavelength observations. I will discuss what we learned about their star formation properties and our discovery of AGN activity, and implication of our results on our understanding of galaxies at the Epoch of Reionization.
