Quenched, or just Napping? Mass Assembly in Post-Starburst Galaxies at Cosmic Dawn with JWST

I will shed light on new observations of stochastic star formation histories, a modality of star formation expected in the early Universe — and especially focus on galaxies where we see a lull phase of star formation. I will unpack the physical conditions of stellar populations in napping/mini-quenched galaxies at z > 4 with JWST Deep Field observations (e.g., via the JWST UNCOVER survey) and spectrophotometric stellar population synthesis modeling. I will also show our team’s work with post-starburst strong gravitationally lensed galaxies discovered in the COOL-LAMPS and LEGGOS surveys (including programs I am leading and PI’ing), in order comprehensively characterize local star formation histories with integral field spectroscopy.
