Mapping the X-ray Sky: Survey Science with XMM-Newton and SVOM mission

The XMM-Newton Survey Science Centre (SSC) consortium has released the largest XMM-Newton X-ray source catalogue, 5XMM-DR15, which provides a unique opportunity for machine-learning-based source classification and multiwavelength population studies of X-ray sources. The catalogue covers ~3.5% of the sky, with 818,656 unique X-ray sources detected in the 0.2–12.0 keV band. My contribution includes the screening of the stacks and the development of its cross-matching and spectral energy distribution (SED) workflow. I will also present recent results from the Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM) mission, launched in 2024, with which I am affiliated as a scientist. Combining X-ray monitoring with ECLAIRs and MXT along with rapid optical follow-up (VT), SVOM provides a unique platform for studying transient and bursting X-ray sources. Among the results is the detection of a rare doublet Type-I X-ray burst from the neutron star low-mass X-ray binary EXO 0748-676, combining observations from SVOM/ECLAIRs, MXT, and VT with NuSTAR spectroscopy to investigate the physics of thermonuclear bursts. Preliminary results from a joint Einstein Probe and SVOM study of the Z-source GX 340+0 will also be presented. Finally, the talk will cover the status of the interactive user interface under development, integrating SVOM and XMM-Newton data products into a unified platform to provide streamlined access to archival data. The proposed framework could be extended to support future missions, including NewAthena, enabling comprehensive multi-mission population studies of X-ray sources.
