IUCAA is organizing a 5-day advanced-level workshop at IUCAA focusing on the theoretical aspects of relativistic jets associated with active galactic nuclei (AGN). In India, there is a large astronomical community investigating various aspects of AGN physics. Indian researchers analyze multi-wavelength observations from ground- and space-based observatories, e.g., AstroSat, DOT, HCT, GMRT, Fermi-LAT, Swift, NuSTAR, and XMM-Newton. However, there is a severe lack of theoretical support to explain the observations, and researchers often rely on publicly available tools, e.g., AGNPy or JetSet. With the advent of the IceCube neutrino observatory and X-ray polarimetric mission IXPE, the complexity in explaining the high-quality observations has become even more evident. The proposed workshop is a very timely step towards developing theoretical expertise in India, also considering the Indian community’s involvement in almost all mega-science projects. The workshop intends to trigger interest among young minds to dive deeper into the theory of relativistic jets and develop a strong synergy between the theory and observations of AGN.
Objectives of the Event: The primary goal of the proposed workshop is to provide much-needed exposure of the AGN jet theory to Indian researchers. Another crucial aspect of the event is to develop the skills of PhD students and postdocs in numerical simulations of the relativistic jet emission through hands-on sessions.
Topics covered:
