ASTROSAT Post-Doctoral Fellowships

The Indian Multiwavelength Astronomy satellite ASTROSAT is a national project involving several leading research institutes in the country. Five scientific instruments are under development for Astrosat which will enable high quality research in astronomy covering x-ray, uv and visible bands. More details about Astrosat can be found at the website 'http://meghnad.iucaa.ernet.in/~astrosat'.

Several Astrosat Post-Doctoral Fellowships (PDFs), funded by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), are available at the participating institutions viz. Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai), Indian Institute of Astrophysics (Bangalore), ISRO Satellite Centre (Bangalore), Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics (Pune), Raman Research Institute (Bangalore), Physical Research Laboratory (Ahmedabad), Nuclear Research Laboratory, BARC (Mumbai), Centre for Space Physics (Kolkata) and State Observatory (Nainital). Applications are invited for these PDFs from candidates with recent Ph.D. degree in Astronomy, Physics and Applied Physics. Knowledge of astronomy is desirable but not essential. The selected PDFs will be required to contribute to the hardware and software developmental activities related to Astrosat instruments. In addition, the candidates may also pursue independent research using upto 50% of the total time.

The initial appointment will be for 2 years with the possibility of further extension on satisfactory performance. The stipend will be Rs. 11,000/- plus admissible house rent allowance if accommodation is not provided. The stipend will be higher for candidates with post-doctoral experience.

Applicants should send their CV, a brief description of research experience and a bibliography to:
