Computation facilities at IUCAA
Visitors at IUCAA have 24 hour access to the computers at the main 'Computer Centre'. Primary operating system in the PCs are Scientific Linux 4.2 (with few old PCs having Fedora). The filesystems are NFS mounted. The network protocol is DHCP. Almost all the PCs also have a dual boot option to boot into Windows XP. However, booting to Windows XP is highly discouraged in the PCs.
A separate room with 20 PCs connected to the internet, will be alloted for the participants of the Conference, with a common login.
The network system in IUCAA, although DHCP, yet it requires to register the hardware address of the Wi-Fi or LAN adapters of the computers so as to get connected to the network. Participants bringing their own Laptops, should send the 'MAC address' of the wireless & ethernet controllers their Laptops, prior to their arrival, to Sarah Ponrathnam (sysadm@iucaa) so that they can use the wireless/wired network and use the internet from the very moment of their presence in the IUCAA premises.
» To find MAC address (which is a set of 12 digit alpha-numeric characters):
for Windows, it can be determined by the command 'ipconfig /all'
for Linux, it can be determined by the command 'ifconfig -a'
for MAC OS, open the TCP/IP control panel, then from the "File" menu heading, select "Get Information". The hardware address is the MAC address
Please Note : For ICGC 07, we have allotted enough number of free IPs, and hence we do not need anymore your MAC IDs !!!!
